Our Lace Bra Kits take the guesswork out of bra building by putting together everything you'll need to make a beautiful bra using your own pattern. If you need a pattern, we have a great selection on our Patterns Page, both paper and downloadable.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! One of the very special parts of the season is the bounty of sweet goodness like candy canes and peppermint swirls. We used these sweet treats as the inspiration for our December Kits of the Month, and our Featured Artist Nadine made a darling set! She used the bright red Candy Cane lace with her Frost base fabrics and popped it with Crimson elastics. Crimson is one of those colors that only comes out every once in a while. It's gorgeous, but a whole lot of work! It's coming out to play with the elastics on the Candy Cane version of this kit. The lace itself reminds me of a Missoni knit, with those dramatic peaks and valleys. The edges of the lace are just as cute, with white diamonds superimposed on a red field. Nadine used the lace on a riff of the Jessica Bra by B,Wear. The front of the bra is an homage to straps, with 3 straps on each side crisscrossing across the chest. Her undies are the Tuesday Boyshorts from Emerald Erin. Take a look at how darling the back of these undies are! Oh so cute!

The Peppermint Swirl variation of this kit is more subtle, with a sweet row of red and pink "Swirls" across the edge. A special element of this lace is the subtle texture you'll get when you overlay the white part of the lace over your white fabric. It looks like a high-end jacquard when you put them together. The red in this lace is a bit less saturated than the Candy Cane lace, so we're using Flame as the accent for this one. You can also pick up the pink with Dahlia. Both of these laces are stretch laces, so you can place them over your entire bra, including the band!

And if these sweet laces weren't enough on their own- we've found the most adorable Peppermint and Candle Charms! All the extras to really make this kit your own.

Just in case you're a real sucker for Christmas like I am, we have 2 prints that both look amazing with these darling bras- Winter Songbirds and Spirit of the Season. Can you say family Christmas undies??

Sewing Notes:
The strength of our microduoplex fabric, which makes it so wonderful for bras, also makes it hard to puncture with needles and pins. This is true with most duoplex fabrics. Use either fine silk pins or Wonder Clips to pin (I find Wonder Clips work best), and a Microtex 80/12 needle with a smooth thread like Superior Threads So Fine or Mettler Metrosene to make it easy to sew. In my testing, the So Fine thread and Microtex 80/12 won the challenge of the nicest stitch on microduoplex, and as long as my presser foot completely covered the seam allowance, I found it just as easy to sew as quilting cotton. I moved the needle to the right to set my seam allowance at 1/4" since my presser foot is a bit wide. I find it works well to saturate the lace with liquid starch and let it dry before laying out your pattern pieces and cutting your fabric. This stiffens the lace until you wash it and the lace has enough body to behave well in the sewing process.
We offer all these pins, clips, needles and thread here on our site.
