Awake, O north wind,
And come, O south!
Blow upon my garden,
That its spices may flow out.
Let my beloved come to his garden
And eat its pleasant fruits.

Song of Songs 4:16

You haven't seen a lace like this one before! This set is a bit more "Boudoir" than everyday, but it is really and truly something special. The flowers on this lace are dimensional and the colors are rich and intricate without being fussy. You can certainly use this kit to make the bodice of a dress or a corset for a beautiful "Underwear as Outerwear" look.

Our Featured Artist Rowena outdid herself with this set. She was reminded of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. I saw it more as the lover's garden in the ancient love poem Song of Songs. Rowena used the Devonshire bra pattern from Orange Lingerie, adapted to a longline with partially-crossed back bands that close with 3x2 hooks and eyes. She appliqued extra flowers to the cup to really play up the dimensional look of the lace. She used her own self drafted boyshort undie pattern for the undies, and duplicated the "terrace" look from the bra on the center panel of the undies. The side fronts of the undies have more of the beautiful lace. Isn't her work amazing?

We've put together this kit as a combined bra and panty kit. This seemed natural since this lace is 45" wide, so you'll have a big piece to work with. The default for this kit will be Antique Rose as the base fabrics and your choice of Wedgewood or Seafoam for the elastics. The lace looks great over a number of options. I'm showing our Frosted Petals silk (temporarily sold out), Antique Rose and Frost (bottom to top) in these pictures. Please let us know in the comments if you'd like to switch up any of the colors in this kit. For your panty, Microlycra with Foldover Elastic will be the default, unless you choose something else.

Sewing Notes:
The strength of our microduoplex fabric, which makes it so wonderful for bras, also makes it hard to puncture with needles and pins. This is true with most duoplex fabrics. Use either fine silk pins or Wonder Clips to pin (I find Wonder Clips work best), and a Microtex 80/12 needle with a smooth thread like Superior Threads So Fine or Mettler Metrosene to make it easy to sew. In my testing, the So Fine thread and Microtex 80/12 won the challenge of the nicest stitch on microduoplex, and as long as my presser foot completely covered the seam allowance, I found it just as easy to sew as quilting cotton. I moved the needle to the right to set my seam allowance at 1/4" since my presser foot is a bit wide. I find it works well to saturate the lace with liquid starch and let it dry before laying out your pattern pieces and cutting your fabric. This stiffens the lace until you wash it and the lace has enough body to behave well in the sewing process.
We offer all these pins, clips, needles and thread here on our site.
