We are experimenting this winter with a duo of similar and coordinating prints that we call Sun Valley. Ski resorts are a favorite winter destination and our new prints, Sun Valley Circles and Sun Valley Mountains are perfect for winter lingerie whether you are going skiing or not! Liz of Liz Sews stitched up the adorable Sun Valley Circles bralette pictured here using the Watson Bra and Brief pattern.
These kits are offered with our adorable Sun Valley Circles bamboo jersey print. This fabric is soft and stretchy, and for more support you'll want to use some sort of a base fabric layer to add support on the back band, which is what the Power Mesh or Power Net are in the kit to do. This is a fabric that can be used for that extra something that these fabrics will give unless your support level is very light. Sometimes you still want a little more and for that we offer the option to add a kit cut of Spacer Foam in Frost or Midnight.
Spacer foam is about 1/16" thick, is lightweight but substantial, breathable, and has a 4-way stretch. It is a different fabric than a cut and sew foam, which is thicker and primarily suitable for a lining only. For support, you would use it like any Lycra fabric, cutting it so that there is a little bit of negative ease. I remove the seam allowances within the cup and butt the seams together. Then I sew them together with a 3-step zigzag, running a piece of tissue paper under the fabric while I sew so that it doesn't creep on me. I keep the seam allowances on the band side and sew it into the band just like I would any other fabric.
There are 3 levels of support available. All three levels of support include a stable sheer lining for the front frame. For light support we offer a light, buttery power mesh to line the back band under the print. For medium support we offer medium weight power net to line the back band. For strong support we offer firm weight power net to line the back band in addition to Regular Weight Power Net for under the cups. For a kit cut of power net to line your cup, pop on over to the listing for our Regular Weight Power Net.
For elastics, we offer either a foldover elastics option or a picot elastics option, and vary the weight of the elastics to correspond with the level of support. For reference, the Watson bralette uses picot elastic and the Sweet Sixteen bralette uses foldover elastic.
