I started sewing in the summer of 2015 spurred on by the The Great British Sewing Bee. I don’t know how I could have learned if it wasn’t for all the wonderful resources available on the internet. Before each project I’d spend hours on-line researching and learning the techniques. In 2017 I made my first bra and never looked back. I, like many women, have proportions that don’t necessarily conform to fashion industry standards. Being able to make my own bras was an eye-opening experience that helped me to understand and love my own body for all its quirks and feel more confident in the body I have. Now with a few 100 bras under my presser foot I try to pay it forward by creating educational content and tutorials on YouTube to help other would-be bra makers as they start their own journey.
It is hard to say enough good things about Liz's YouTube channel, "Liz Sews". With over 20,000 subscribers, her channel covers so many lingerie sewing topics we can't even begin to list them! There are instructional videos on bras, panties, bodysuits, swimsuits, pattern drafting, materials and where to buy them and measuring to find your perfect fit to name a few. She also has some Sew Alongs which are invaluable for us hands-on learners. She has a new video every Wednesday and Saturday so anything you have questions about is bound to have been covered by Liz at some point. Her videos are informative and her teaching style is clear and easy to follow. And watch for a random something like "Sew a Cat Shirt" thrown in just for fun.
