Our Lace Bra Kits take the guesswork out of bra building by putting together everything you'll need to make a beautiful bra using your own pattern. If you need a pattern, we have a great selection on our Patterns Page, both paper and downloadable.
Our June kit of the Month, Garden Gate, has sold out, so we had to find something else that will get your creative juices going. We're using the same Denim color as a base fabric, but pairing it with this lovely wave-patterned tulle lace. It will work just like our lovely, pictured June Kit of the Month, Garden Gate. The tulle lace featured in this kit takes you through a spectacular summer garden in shades of blue, but this time the focus in on the rolling surf rather than the lovely flowers. We added some red and white flowers to remind you that a cute red and white bow might be a nice addition on a certain July day.
Liz made her beautiful bra by altering the Black Beauty bra pattern with a darted cup and a longline adjustment. Check out her videos for both alterations on her YouTube channel "Liz Sews" to for tips and tricks, or join us for The Great Bra Sewing Bee, where Liz will show you exactly how to "Make it a Longline" and Erin will answer your questions on the Black Beauty. You might also be inspired by a similar lace pattern, Regency, for your creation. We've included a small reminder of that kit for your reference. Of course, that rosy palette isn't a match for these cool blues, so Denim is the default color for this kit. For the Garden Gate bra pictured here Liz used Denim, so you can see how pretty it is! To complete your Seaside Garden set, make up a pair of Stretch Mesh or Microlycra panties in Denim. Just check the Special/Legacy color option and type Denim in the space provided.
This bra kit features either Microduoplex, Sheer Cup Lining, Tricot, or Microlycra as the base fabric. The strength of our microduoplex fabric, which makes it so wonderful for bras, also makes it hard to puncture with needles and pins. This is true with most duoplex fabrics. Use either fine silk pins or Wonder Clips to pin (I find Wonder Clips work best), and a Microtex 80/12 needle with a smooth thread like Superior Threads So Fine or Mettler Metrosene to make it easy to sew. In my testing, the So Fine thread and Microtex 80/12 won the challenge of the nicest stitch on microduoplex, and as long as my presser foot completely covered the seam allowance, I found it just as easy to sew as quilting cotton. I moved the needle to the right to set my seam allowance at 1/4" since my presser foot is a bit wide. I find it works well to saturate the lace with liquid starch and let it dry before laying out your pattern pieces and cutting your fabric. This stiffens the lace until you wash it and the lace has enough body to behave well in the sewing process.
We offer all these pins, clips, needles and thread here on our site.
