Our Lace Bra Kits take the guesswork out of bra building by putting together everything you'll need to make a beautiful bra using your own pattern. If you need a pattern, we have a great selection on our Patterns Page, both paper and downloadable.

Holiday time is right around the corner, so we thought we would put together a kit that is abounding in the richness of the holidays. The first holiday we'll encounter here in the USA is Thanksgiving -- full of deep colors and abundance. When you look at this gorgeous kit, you are reminded of that richness. I think that the first word out of everyone's mouth when they see this stunning longline that Jennie made with her Grace bra pattern and the Glimmer Knit base fabric is "regal". We thought that Majestic was the perfect name. I can also see this kit working very well with the new pattern from LilyPad Designs, the Cambia. I would do a Guipure-style dart in this lace rather than a regular dart. In this style, you remove some of the motifs and re-assemble the lace into the curved shape. Here's a great Guipure lace tutorial.

This kit features a soft, supple, rich Guipure lace in a golden color and bounces that off of our seasonal color Plum Pudding. This color is lots of people's favorite. It's a rich eggplant color that really pops the lace. Speaking of the lace, this is a very high quality Guipure lace, where the motifs are connected with little bars. It conforms to curves by snipping the thread bars and re-stitching the lace together. You can also take individual motifs out of the lace and place them where you want. It's a super versatile lace. You'll find this lace in very fine lingerie brands like La Perla out of France. You don't need to spend $500 to get something even more beautiful than what they have! Plus, the first 25 people to get the Majestic kit will receive a beautiful acorn charm for the center gore.

Another thing that this kit is good for is playing around the the "Underwear as Outerwear" trend. Can't you see this amazing creation under a long blazer walking down a city street? Wow! Of course, if you're built a bit more like me you can use this kit and cover the band and/or the power bar with this amazing lace and keep it underneath.

Jennie also used the Glimmer Knit to make some of her own self-drafted undies. Guipure lace isn't a natural for undies, and a great way to incorporate the lace into your bottoms is to cut out and applique some of the motifs. So, for the matching set just pick up an undie kit in the color Plum Pudding and you'll have the match. You can use our new Glimmer Knit on the undies too since it has a great stretch and recovery.

This bra kit features either Microduoplex, Sheer Cup Lining, Glimmer Knit or Microlycra as the base fabric. One kit contains everything that you need to make a bra and has enough fabric for 2 with many sizes. To get the second bra with larger sizes, upgrade to the half yard of cup fabric and add a bra finishing kit.

A Majestic Lace Bra Kit contains:

    • A fat quarter of Microduoplex, Sheer Cup Lining, Super Simplex, or Microlycra in Plum Pudding.
      • You may add an extra kit cut of cup fabric
      • Glimmer Knit kits will have a full half yard of knit (18" x 42") plus a kit cut of Sheer Cup Lining
    • 28" x 14" of Powernet (specify regular or firm weight) in Plum Pudding
    • 1 1/2 yards of Majestic lace
    • Band elastics in Plum Pudding
      • 1 1/2 yards of 3/8" scalloped band elastic
      • 1 1/4 yards of 5/8" or 1/2" scalloped band elastic
    • 1 yard of plush channeling in Plum Pudding
    • Twill tape for seam stabilization
    • 3 hook and eyes (please specify 2 or 4) to match the band
    • Strap elastic
      • 6" plus interfacing for self straps (no rings and slides)
      • 1 1/2 yards plus rings and slides for elastic straps in Plum Pudding

Sewing Notes:
The strength of our microduoplex fabric, which makes it so wonderful for bras, also makes it hard to puncture with needles and pins. This is true with most duoplex fabrics. Use either fine silk pins or Wonder Clips to pin (I find Wonder Clips work best), and a Microtex 80/12 needle with a smooth thread like Superior Threads So Fine or Mettler Metrosene to make it easy to sew. In my testing, the So Fine thread and Microtex 80/12 won the challenge of the nicest stitch on microduoplex, and as long as my presser foot completely covered the seam allowance, I found it just as easy to sew as quilting cotton. I moved the needle to the right to set my seam allowance at 1/4" since my presser foot is a bit wide. I find it works well to saturate the lace with liquid starch and let it dry before laying out your pattern pieces and cutting your fabric. This stiffens the lace until you wash it and the lace has enough body to behave well in the sewing process.
We offer all these pins, clips, needles and thread here on our site.
